“Even though art is only my hobby and not my occupation, art is where my heart and soul reside”.
Brian Tepper
“Brian Tepper’s pieces are informed by his background in Computer Science. His hand-built three-dimensional creations have a very organic feel to them. In this piece, from the Twisted Wood Series, Tepper revisits Marcel Duchamp’s fascination with playing Chess and his ideas about dimensions. A seemingly animated entity emerges out of wood from a local lumber store when the artist adds the third dimension to the pattern of a chessboard. The cross-section of the piece related to the 8 columns of alternating squares found in the popular board. With every cut and angle, organic curves take different directions, just like with every move in a Chess game, the players produce different results”
