“Even though art is only my hobby and not my occupation, art is where my heart and soul reside”.

                                                                                                                                    Brian Tepper

“Brian Tepper’s pieces are informed by his background in Computer Science.  His hand-built three-dimensional creations have a very organic feel to them.  In this piece, from the Twisted Wood Series, Tepper revisits Marcel Duchamp’s fascination with playing Chess and his ideas about dimensions. A seemingly animated entity emerges out of wood from a local lumber store when the artist adds the third dimension to the pattern of a chessboard. The cross-section of the piece related to the 8 columns of alternating squares found in the popular board. With every cut and angle, organic curves take different directions, just like with every move in a Chess game, the players produce different results”

Brian Tepper was born in Indiana and moved to the Bay Area in 1999.  He is a graduate of Purdue University, with a dgree in Computer Science.  Currently he is working as a Software Engineer for an arcade machine manufacturer.  His interest in Art started in high school, with a teacher named Al Jacquay.  He sparked Tepper’s interest in art, and convinced him that it could be part of my life.

In college, Tepper continued to explore his artistic side, and took a minimum of one art class every semester.  Since moving to California, Brian continued his education at the Academy of Art College in Berkeley and Mission College.  He is represented by ArtZone 461 Gallery and his sculptures have been part of 2 Group shows.
