Why Paint a Landscape? explores interests of today's landscape painters.  Certainly there is no escape from awareness of global climate concerns.  As chroniclers and prophets, artists represent something further than a recitation of the facts; they provide a look into rather than a look at their subject.  Whether photo-based, photo-real, or not, the end product contains elements of the artist's time, talent or some aspect of the embodiment of the individual.  Cezanne's unique approach to perspective and portrayal of multiple planes is said to have influenced Einstein formulating the theory of relativity.  Art, science and physics are related, with art providing a path for the others.

Moving beyond traditional scenes, landscape subjects today may be connectivity, temporality or other scientific concepts, even multi-dimensionality. Using plein air or digital sources, the artist must choose between manipulating the image or not.  How does an artist represent time passing or their awareness of current climate theories?  All landscapes are records that provide some answers to certain of these questions.  Contemporary landscapes provide opportunities to see from new or different perspectives.  They allow one to visit or revisit places one has been or imagined being.  Gallery and Guest artists are featured; historic pieces are included to provide comparisons and context.
