I make colorful scenes in oil on canvas. I paint the kind of people whose appearance catches my eye and the kind of places that look magical to me. A clearing in the woods or an old world looking pub shining out in the night inspire wonder and wistfulness in me, bringing me back to younger days.

Even though the people in my paintings may be from 20 years ago and 6000 miles away, they evoke an immediate feeling of recognition. Rich colors, softness of line and the velvety texture of oil paint create an atmosphere of warmth.

My influences are: my seven years spent living in England, music, San Francisco's Victorian architecture, the painters of the nineteenth century, and photography. My own photography, used as the source for my paintings, is often so blurry and underexposed that dreams and memory contribute equally to the finished product.

After receiving my Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art from the University of California at Los Angeles, I returned to England, where I had spent my junior year abroad, as well as a high school year. I began my art practice in Leeds, painting at Jackson's Yard Studios and staying for five years on an artist's visa. In 1997 I returned to my native California, settling in San Francisco.

I have had solo exhibitions at the Pacific Grove Art Center, the offices of Supervisor Matt Gonzalez at San Francisco City Hall, and the Brahm Gallery in Leeds, as well as establishments around San Francisco, including the Dolores Park Cafe, curated by Rachel Herbert. My work has been selected for numerous open exhibitions, including Everything But the Kitschen Sync at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles, Arts on Fire VIII at the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica curated by Jack Rasmussen, ArtSpan's ArtWalk at the Embarcadero Center with Glen Helfland and Michael Martin on the jury, the January Juried Show at Gallery Route One in Point Reyes curated by Marion Parmenter, and the Artists Show and 'Three Leeds Studios' at Leeds City Art Gallery. My entry was awarded Best of Show at the Pacific Grove Art Center in their 'Close to my Heart' exhibition and a Juror's Prize at the ArtSpan Benefit Art Show and Auction. A four-person show at the YWCA in Berkleley featured P.K. Kelly, Martine Jardel, Deborah Howard-Page and myself, and A Piece of Art Gallery in Berkeley exhibited my paintings alongside Christa Assad's ceramics. I am currently in an exhibition with the British photographers Sean Vallely and Ciara Bedingfield at Glama-Rama Salon and Gallery on Valencia Street in San Francisco.

My paintings are in private collections throughout America and England, notably those of curators and former curators from Leeds City Art Gallery; Birmingham, England's Ikon Gallery and the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in New Brunswick, Canada.
