THE REALISTS
NEW, RECENT, AND HISTORICAL WORKS
TEL: 415.441.8680
Realist works characterize the painting style known as Realism. ArtZone 461 Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition in the main space of realism, photo-real and trompe l'oeil* works by Gallery and guest artists.
(* trompe l'oeil is French for "Fool the eye"; a style begun in the 16th Century.)
ArtZone 461 Gallery specializes in exhibiting figurative, representational oil paintings. These realist examples allow the gallery to showcase contemporary, technically exceptional painting based in a deep, historic tradition. The artist's mastery of the painting process -- preparing the surface, layering colors and glazes, using few-haired brushes -- is evident. A comparison to photographs is inevitable, however, upon close examination, it becomes apparent these are in fact paintings.
Gallery artist Randy Beckelheimer's landscapes evoke a romantic, renaissance approach; Heidi McDowell's precision pays homage to digital images and photo-realism, though she includes photo and painterly after-affects. Terry Thompson and Jeong Im Yi take a more traditional approach in their use of trompe l'oeil; each has distinctive subject matter and at the same time they share having very personal relationships with the objects they paint. Examples by Jane Fisher, Keith Gaspari and other gallery artists are also included.
The wide variety of guest artists consists of Michael Beck, Remi Bourquin, Gordon Cook, Guy Diehl, Dale Erickson, Kathryn Jacobi, Mary Robertson, Ada Sadler, Brandon Smith, Eric Wert and more.
