WILLIAM WOLFF
PERSONS & PORTRAITS
SIDE GALLERY
Our side Gallery features "Persons & Portraits," woodblock prints by William Wolff (1922-2004) portraying real, mythical, imagined and historic portraits.
Wolff was a contemporary of the Bay Area Figurative painters and even shared a studio with James Weeks in the mid to late 1950's. Wolff's figurative style and subjects were unique, even idiosyncratic when compared to his colleagues. Wolff stopped painting by the early 1970's and took up printmaking and teaching and continued doing so for the rest of his life.
This show incorporates real, mythical, imagined and historic portraits. Wolff's prints are in museums such as the Library of Congress, the Whitney and most California museums.
